So yes, I’ve noticed now that I’m using WordPress and have this lovely tag cloud over down on the side, how very very small the MayoWare category is. Clearly that needs to change. I Facebook about things that are going on with the shop, and Flickr them, but I fail at blogging MayoWare… so… here I am blogging MayoWare.

I had an order come in requesting a modification on the “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” braided cuff, with the colors of the Gay Pride Flag. Now that is not only a reasonable request but something I should have in my regular inventory. Cue the search for violet purple seed beads, because you can’t have a Pride Flag without purple.

That brought me to a site called 1-2-3 Stitch, which is not the sort of place most jewelry makers go I would venture for their supplies, but it so happens they have a terrific selection of seed beads in both the size for the braided and wrapped cuffs (0/11) and for the casual cuffs like the Arrakis (0/6).  Certainly a much better selection thereof than my local Michael’s.

So I got my purple beads, more metallic Arakkis beads, the periwinkle blue seed beads I was out of that put the Wood Elf braided out of stock… the colors I need to ensure the Phoenix braided does not suffer the same fate, and some more colors of 06/ beads for more types of casual cuff.

Now if I could just get around to photoing the several colors of tiara,  steampunk earring and beaded ripple I made back in early October, then I could justify designing new things, but I really can’t justify that when I have designs I still haven’t listed for sale.

Day of Silence Pt. 3…

Happy end of the Day of Silence… I managed to stay Silent Pretty Much all day. I did have to talk to the Phone… like I said before… but I didn’t actually have to talk at Rehearsal… the Director was Cool with it… which is really Cool. I did talk twice when no one was listening… while watching Law and Order… *Sigh.* I was watching and typing stuff for Ert and subconsciously, I started doing that thing I do when I’m watching a show I’ve already seen… saying an actors line, in the dramatic pause they put before it.

But no one was listening… I was alone in my room… and it was like 8 words total… Also I think a little voice slipped out when I was trying to get Tiffany to read my lips in the wings at one point… but I suspect I sounded like a deaf person (no offense to deaf people or anything, I just had that, non-speaking but sortof speaking vocalization sound that deaf people sometimes have when they haven’t learned to talk (because some do learn to talk, and then they can.))She had no idea what I was mouthing so I had to write it down anyway… so that doesn’t really count… does it? Ok… fine… go ahead… take away my activism card. No really… I got the spirit… even if I narfed up just a wee bit now and then.

On a whole other Note:

Midweeks was funny as hell. We had a sobbing Aldonza, Dulcin-neigh-ah (in the Donkey Mask,) Bugs Bunny the Padre, Raggedy Antonia, Dr. Apu Corrasco, and Brest Milk Drinking Muleteers. Don Quixote wore a Vest Covered in AOL CDs (Shiney side out,) and a Spaghetti Strainer on his head… and both Sancho and Don Miguel de Cervantes spoke in very modern language. There were loose body parts in Cervante’s Trunk, Sancho didn’t see a castle, but it might be a Wal*Mart, The Golden Helmet of Mambrino was really a Captains Hat, the nuns sideshuffled onstage (cause only one of us knew how to moonwalk… (not me)), the combat scene took place in the Matrix (complete with bullet time sequence,) Aldonza wanted it “Harder” in the Abduction Scene, and Ryan’s kidnapping wasn’t in his contract so Thea got carried off screaming “You don’t Understand! I’m just a Techie!!!” The Sharon (the Belly Dancer) wore a Hula Skirt and Danced like a Stripper… a more modern stripper that is, and Matt (the Moor who sings) had some interesting Lyrics… One of the Knight atendants wore a Skirt, The Knight of the Mirrors Wore Tinfoil, and Don Quixote Preened in his Mirrors. Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquisition… except we do.

There was a lot more… but most of it… you had to be there for… really you did… this is just the stuff that sounds best in type… which I can remember… at this time of night… I may remember more and add it later.

I for one wore a different Hat Every time I stepped on stage… as a joke related to the fact that they kept changing my hat on me… I wore, in order, a fedora, my denim hat with Miss Mayonnaise’s Ribbon Hair coming out of it, a sparkling swami hat, my Hat in the Show Twisted round so it took over my whole head (in place of my burka), a tophat (the tech tool, not a real one) and my Froghat. I had My Scully Wig, under any hat that would accommodate it.

Twas Much Fun… though I do think they missed a chance for a really great Wizard of Oz Joke when Alonzo Quijana woke up in the end… he has that line about a strange dream… I just waited for him to say… “And you were there… and you… and you!!!”

*Higgles Madly and Heads off to Sleep.*

Day of Silence Pt. 2….

Back from work… it went well. Everyone was very understanding of my not speaking, including my boss. My Bosses Boss on the other hand thought he was being cute I think, trying to trip me up all day and make me speak. He’d sneak into the office and call my name, trying to make me respond without realizing it. Then he started saying things like “Say Marisa… is this your 20$ Bill on the Floor over here?” Of course there was no money… *Shakes head sadly.* He was just trying to trick me into speaking.

Day of Silence…..

Advanced warning for those of you liable to see me today:

Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence?

I will speak at work, to the phone only, as it is the main function of my job, (Telephone Operator) to speak to the phone. I will not speak to anyone else. I’ll also speak, (well sing actually,) in the context of the things I’m required to do in the rehearsal for Man of La Mancha Tonight. That’s my on-stage role only. But I will not be speaking in the wings, or in the dressing room, or anyplace else for the next… *Checks the Clock.* 12 hours and 54 minutes.

This does not mean I will not communicate if I must. I’ll have a pad of paper on me to write important things down…answers to questions I can’t charade out quickly. Please pardon me if I do not excuse myself after I bump into you… as I’m not speaking, and I likely won’t have time to write that down before you walk away. If I’m snapping my fingers at you, it’s just me trying to get your attention… likely because you are standing on my skirt, or someone is looking for you.

This obviously doesn’t affect those of you who only know me on the web. Since typing is like writing and therefore our lines of communication will remain open. However, it’s unlikely my web-only friends need this message driven home to them anyhow… actually it’s unlikely that any of my friends need it… it’s the other people I’ll be running into all day.

Right then… that’s that… I’ll write back later if there’s anything interesting to report on how this went.
